You Glow Girl.
Being a light in a darkness is who we are. Jesus said this in the Sermon on the Mount:
“You are the light of the world – like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see; so that everyone will praise your Heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:14-16 (NLT)
If you’re like me, you have probably felt like your light has been hidden for a little too long during this quarantine. We have been stuck in our homes, away from our friends and family, and it can be so easy to feel all alone. Maybe you have served in the church, taught Sunday school, or sang on the praise team, and when you’re serving, it’s easy to let your light shine for Jesus...
I remember right before the global announcement for Covid-19. I was going to Kroger to buy some groceries and an elder lady was in front of me in line. She seemed to be debating for whether or not she could afford the food she was buying. After she rummaged through a wallet full of coupons, I saw her begin to put a few things back. Well let me tell you, the Holy Spirit was already moving my heart to pay her bill and bless her, except my pride told me another story. I began to think to myself, “would she be offended?” or “would she think I was eaves dropping into her personal space?” I kept feeling a tug on my heart until I finally took a step of faith and asked her if she would allow me to be obedient to what I felt God was telling me to do and pay her bill. Her smile captured my heart. The weight of disobedience in my hesitation fell away as she allowed me to give her a hug and pay her bill.
Why did I wait so long? Why was I so afraid she would reject me? It was the best feeling ever! I had my shining light moment. I told her that God loved her and that He thinks about her every day. I also invited her to church on Sunday and asked her to be my guest. That’s when she said to me “listen here little lady, I know exactly who you are. You’re that Torres man’s daughter. That pastor that used to preach in the city. When you guys were located in the inner city, I used to walk my children over to all your outreaches. You people are good people!” Well, now guess who’s the one smiling!
God is just waiting for you to be His light. Even though we are still in the midst of a pandemic, we can still shine our light when we call up a sister and encourage her. We can send a letter or even a text or email. Think about it, even a simple post on your social media can help to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. Your light is on the inside!! So, what are you waiting for? Let “your good deeds,” as the word of God says, “shine out for all to see.” When we do this, we reflect the light of love on our Heavenly Father.
